README.TXT - TUNE!IT
VERSION 1.30
____________________________________________________________
INTRODUCTION
------------
TUNE!IT is a program designed to tune musical instruments
by using a microphone or directly connecting your instrument
(with a pickup) to the PC's soundcard.
TUNE!IT automatically detects the pitch of the input signal
and displays the corresponding note and its deviation from
standard tuning. Optionally it can display the spectrum of
the input signal, from which the instrument's harmonics
can be identified.
Version 1.30 replaces version 1.20 and has the following
enhancements/new features :
- customised tunings to create instrument specific tuning sequences
- spectrum is now showing dB scale and has a Freeze button

USING TUNE!IT
-------------
Make sure your microphone or instrument lead is properly
connected to the soundcard.
Start up TUNE!IT by clicking on TUNE!IT's icon. The
chromatic tuner with green note boxes at the bottom and
an accuracy box at the top will be displayed. A red status light
in the left hand corner of the screen indicates that TUNE!IT
is ready for tuning.
Play or sing a note and you should see the corresponding note box
highlighted in red and it's accuracy displayed in percent in the
accuracy box.
Play a reference tone by clicking on any of the green note boxes.
Click on the Spectrum button to view the spectrum of your input signal
in real time.
For a detailed description of TUNE!IT's modes and
parameter settings refer to the online Help information.
Note :
If TUNE!IT does not respond to your input signals, check
the following :
- is the microphone level of your soundcard (usually adjustable in
your mixer) set up high enough ?
- if your input signal is very weak (e.g. acoustic guitar), adjust
TUNE!IT's sensitivity (General Settings) to a lower DB value until
you get a response .
- can you record your signals with any other standard Windows Wave
recording program (e.g. WaveEdit) ?
If TUNE!IT shows erratic readings from background noise, adjust
TUNEITt's sensitivity to a higher dB value until the background noise
does not cause anymore readings. Alternatively turn the microphone level
down.
